I know there’s still a few more days of February left, but I have some exams coming up next week and don’t know if I’ll have a chance to write this nearer the time, so I thought I might as well do it now! Plus I’m not going shopping in the next week so I won’t find any new favourites for the rest of the month (fingers crossed).
Here are my beauty February favourites, products that I have used pretty much every day this month so far and will do so until they run out, at which point I’ll probably just go and re-buy them;
First are my shampoo and conditioner. I change my shampoo set every time it runs out because I find I get bored of my hair smelling like the same scent for weeks on end so I’m always in need of a change! I love the new Herbal Essences range recently, having just changed from Bee Strong to this- Moroccan My Shine which has moroccan argan oil in it and just makes my hair really shiny and the smell is so delicious. The set retails at £5 from Boots as it’s on a special offer at the moment, and usually they’re around £3-£4 each so I thought it was a really good deal.
Next is also shower products. As with my shampoo, I change my shower gel each time it runs out just to get something new. I love Original Source gels because they actually smell like what they say on the label which I’ve found some brands don’t live up to. I usually like the citrus/mint flavours from Original Source but the other day found this Vanilla & Raspberry which I’ve never seen before. I used it in the shower this evening and it honestly smells like strawberry and cream Chupa Chups. I’m not a huge sweet scent fan as I find they can be quite sickly but I could just eat this one, it’s absolutely divine. These were £1 each from Wilkinsons which was a bargain!
As it’s been quite cold lately, I’ve been using lots of balm to keep my lips from getting chapped. My favourite has been the eos strawberry sorbet egg; I kept seeing this in Topshop and Urban Outfitters for quite high prices, however I found it on Amazon for £3.49 and it’s lasted me since I bought it back in August. I can tell it’s going to run out soon, so I plumped in Primark for the cocoa butter Vaseline which comes in a really cute vintage pot at the moment.
In terms of makeup, I was very fortunate to receive a few little Benefit makeup sets from my boyfriend’s Mum for Christmas so I haven’t really had to buy any new makeup recently; I seem to have an endless supply of tiny mascaras and eyeshadows- never a bad thing! My favourite is the Benefit Porefessional balm which I apply before doing my makeup and makes my skin really silky smooth, it’s a miracle product. I got the full sized one in Duty Free in Australia in August for £24.50 but thankfully the mini came with one of my sets, as mine is running out. I should also praise the They’re Real mascara as it’s the best I’ve tried and never fails to get my very short eyelashes looking lusciously long somehow.
I haven’t had to buy any makeup I know, but I went to see a friend one weekend recently and completely forgot to pack makeup, plus I needed new eyeliner anyway. I’m very picky when it comes to eyeliner as I can’t deal with gel or kohl so it has to be a very steady liner pen. This time I picked the Rimmel Scandaleyes jumbo liquid eye liner, which is basically a marker pen for your eyes. It’s so brilliant, I haven’t had one wobbly day, my eyeliner look so bold and clean every time I apply it with this. Definitely going to get this again, it’s a new staple in my every day makeup bag and only £5.49! I also got the Scandaleyes Xxtreme Black Mascara in 003 Extreme Black (£6.99), but I haven’t had to use this much yet as I still have loads of mini Benefit ones.
Scent-wise I’ve been loving the Victoria’s Secret fragrance mists for the last few months. I have the Coconut Passion already and bought Sheer Love in Dubai, but didn’t start using it until I moved to uni and brought it with me. This smells so clean and light, it’s a very fruity smell that I wear every day as a little freshener when I’m leaving the house or between lectures. The smell stays on my clothes for ages and is just heavenly. In the UK it retails at around £10 which may seem pricey for a body spray but they do last forever, plus the bottle is pink and floral. I also got the Daisy Dream perfume by Marc Jacobs for Valentine’s Day which I love. It smells very dainty and fruity which is perfect and the packaging is so pretty especially on the bigger bottles, I love this perfume so much!
This last one might seem a bit strange to have on a favourites but it has really saved me lately. I have very bad back ache all the time, especially in the morning where I’ve been lying down for so long during the night, so I always feel very tense and tight in my back muscles. I use Tiger Balm to help with this; it has a very strong mentholated smell and can be used for any muscle/joint ache by just rubbing a small amount into the area. As much as I love and have always used this product, it is brown/red and can come off on my white bedsheets/pyjamas if I put it on at night. That’s why for night time White Monkey Holding Peach Balm is a saviour; it’s the same but just a different brand, made in Thailand by what I can only assume is angels as it just makes everything so much better. An added bonus is that you can use it for headaches and migraines by rubbing a small amount onto your temple (not too close to the eye as it will sting SO much) and it makes your skin very cool and relaxed. Depending on where you get these from they’re between £3-6, but I get mine in Thailand where they’re very cheap as they’re everyday medicine cabinet items.
Now I’m ready to get into bed and watch Friends until I fall asleep- surrounded by a beautiful menthol smell!
