Popcorn Time! | Favourite Films

Hello Lovelies!

One of my favourite things about summer is how light it stays outside in the evening, making the days feel like they last so much longer than in winter. I love nestling down with duvets and blankets on the floor, surrounded by bowls of snacks and friends, and watching films. This is a lot nicer in the winter to be honest, getting snuggled up with layers and hot chocolates, but I feel like in summer people have more free time for stuff like this.

I wanted to make a list of my favourite rom-com films at the moment just in case any of you are planning on having a film night with your girlfriends and are stuck for inspiration about what to watch- I hate that feeling where nothing really hits me and I’m staring at my DVD shelf for ages waiting for some inspiration.

1. Pitch Perfect

At the moment this is my all-time favourite film, I think I watched it every day for a week when it first came out on DVD, I’m absolutely obsessed! I love the songs in it and  the cute sisterhood feel of the film and even though I haven’t seen the second one yet I know that’s just going to be as good if not better! Plus Rebel Wilson as Fat Amy is my spirit animal, I absolutely adore her.

2. Bridesmaids

Again this film has long been a favourite of mine, it’s my go-to film when I’ve got nothing to do and am having a little pamper session in the evening. It’s so funny even after watching it 100 times and Melissa McCarthy is absolutely hilarious in it; she’s the kind of girl you’d love to spend a night out with because you’d get into such ridiculous situations!

3. About Time

I should have put this first really; this is my favourite film of all time. In fact, I watched this yesterday and had a biiiiig long cry in bed to it, it’s such a beautiful story. If you haven’t seen it then I don’t want to ruin it but it’s the cutest rom-com ever and will make you wish you lived in London with this guy and had ginger babies and a cute life with him, trust me it’s really emotional.

4. The Wedding Ringer

I saw this film when it came out and it’s so funny! Not the kind of film I usually go for as I am a complete ‘boy meets girl’ rom-com fanatic, but Kevin Hart just steals the whole show and makes it brilliant. I’d definitely recommend this for a night in with your friends with a couple of beers, it’s got an expected ending and it’s just hilarious.

5. Bride Wars

Back to my trusty rom-com genre, this film reminds me so much of my best friend and I and how our weddings would go if we ever fell out around that time. I love Anne Hathaway’s films, she’s absolutely gorgeous first of all and also such a good, emotional actress- this one definitely doesn’t disappoint. I love getting a big bowl of ice cream and watching this with my best friend and (hopefully jokingly) laughing about how this would definitely be us when we get married- I’m definitely going for Jennifer Hudson with Anne Hathaway’s bod. Plus it has Chris Pratt pre-hunkiness, which is still pretty hot.

6. Pretty Woman

Finally here is a really old (25, older than me!) but classic film. Julia Roberts is absolutely stunning and Richard Gere is so beautiful, it’s a really lovely story and when I bought it for my boyfriend’s mum on DVD as it’s her favourite film, she watched it 3 times in a row. Bless! This film reminds me of a modern day, real life Cinderella story and has so many classic lines, it’s definitely a feel good film!

Of course I have loads of other go-to films when I’m in different moods; I love a good cry sometimes so I go for films like The Fault in Our Stars or The Perks of Being a Wallflower, films that are bound to get the waterworks going. When I’m having a movie night with my boyfriend he will usually indulge me in a rom-com but then expects a more ‘masculine’ film such as a Marvel movie or American Pie- classic guy stuff. It really just depends what mood you’re in, but I think for a cute night in with your girlfriends, some wine and facemasks, these are definitely the films I’d go for!

Have a lovely weekend!
