Okay: I’ll admit it, I am a serial Netflix binger! I will catch onto a Netflix trend quite late but once I’m hooked, I’m hooked. Seriously, I won’t stop watching until there are no more episodes to be watched and I’m left searching for my next fix! I thought I’d make myself feel a little better about this sad addiction and recommend some things that I’ve been binging lately on Netflix.
Pretty Little Liars
Okay guys, I know I am ridiculously late to this party but I couldn’t get past the first series of Pretty Little Liars for like 2 years, it was so fake and boring to me. However since I went back to university this year, I wanted another way to procrastinate doing any work and giving the show another go seemed like as good a reason as any! Now I’m at the end of season 3 and I am desperately trying to binge watch the show as quickly as possible before the last ever series comes out! I’ll say it now and I’ll say it (somewhat) proud- I AM HOOKED!
Orange is the New Black
Just in case anyone out there hasn’t started watching this yet, I want to urge you to do it immediately! I have loved every single seasons so far, although the latest one hasn’t been that good as the rest. Having read the book, I feel that Piper’s character on screen is completely different to how she is portrayed by the author in this semi-autobiographical novel, but then again it has to be more accessible for audiences… I just feel she’s a bit of a flake in the show to be honest. Still, you’ll get so invested in the characters, all of these women with incredible backstories that get exposed one by one in each episode, and you soon forget that they’re criminals- instead, ‘they’re just women, they’re just women trying to do their best’.
This was a tv show that slowly grew on me and then stayed with me long after I had binged it in 2 evenings (no shame). It’s a rom-com, surprise surprise, starring Gillian Jacobs and Paul Rust. The series focuses on the couple who begin as friends and then the inevitable happens- they start to date then later encounter problems with exes, work, dramas etc. I love how down to earth this show is though, it’s not all floofy and sparkly like many rom-coms are, it is like a genuine relationship would come about and you can definitely empathise with the characters of Mickey and Gus really well.
So to be honest, I added this one because everyone has been raving about it and I finally gave into peer pressure from my boyfriend to watch it. I know that it’s basically the new big thing, but to be honest I absolutely hated it. I’m really not into shows about aliens and I actually only lasted 2 episodes because I found this way too creepy. I know that’s probably not enough time to give the show a proper chance, I mean it took me a whole season of Breaking Bad to get into that, the same with PLL, but I’m just not into suspense shows at all. I felt so tense and anxious the entire time I watched it, despite Tom laughing at me and loving the show… absolute weirdo. I know everyone will be recommending this, but as the winter evenings roll in earlier, the skies darken and those winds start battering tree branches against my window, you can be rest assured I’ll be tucked up in a blanket watching some light comedy or rom-com rather than anything like this!!
I also often find myself watching re-runs of older shows for example right now I keep watching the first season of Gilmore Girls because it’s such a classic and I love the Rory/Lorelai relationship and how they help each other grow, it brings up all the feels! So obviously that deserved a lil’ mention as well!
I’m always on the lookout for more seasons to watch, and these are just on Netflix at the moment but I’m also watching stuff on other channels. If you have any suggestions, let me know in the comments and I’ll probably get around to it on a cold rainy day when no uni work is getting achieved!
Lots of Love,
