Ways to Brighten a Day | Blogmas

It’s always a great feeling when you make somebody smile: whether it’s a stranger, a friend or a family member. I try to live by a very simple philosophy – make one person smile each day. It doesn’t have to be a huge gesture to be meaningful enough to make somebody that little bit happier, and give a person an unexpected boost in their day.

I wanted to share with you my favourite, simple ways to make a person’s day brighter and help spread positivity and love – which is really important in these uncertain times.

There are many ways in which you can make a positive change to peoples’ lives, however I find the most meaningful are the small things that can come as a complete surprise yet still make them feel so much more positive and cheerful. I’m going to share my top 5 ways in which you can really help to make a difference and spread positivity and love to your community, in turn feeling better yourself.

Don’t you just love the feeling of realising you’ve got a free coffee? Tell you what’s even better- giving the coffee away to someone else in the line so that they can experience that feeling as well!

Instead of ignoring homeless people asking for money just because you don’t have any spare change, why not make up sandwiches with encouraging notes and take them to any homeless people in your area or on your commute? I can guarantee it will give them more hope and make them feel like more valued members of the community.

Staying in touch with family members who live far away is often hard, especially nowadays when everyone is just so damn busy! Take 30 minutes out of your day to ring a relative or even an old friend and listen to stories about their day, their moans and triumphs, and spread some positivity!

I love uploading a photo to Instagram and getting positive comments and lovely compliments, especially as photography is a big hobby of mine and it’s really nice to see how other people view my work. Why not find one compliment to make about at least 5 photos you scroll past in the day, and let someone know that their photos are great! Interacting with followers is a great way to make connections and make people feel that what they’re doing is being reached by people. After all, it’s called *social* media for a reason!

Even if you have a few more stops to go, and there aren’t any pregnant ladies or elderly people waiting to sit down, it is always nice to offer your seat to a stranger on public transport. They could have had a 12 hour work shift on their feet all day, or just really need the rest. Besides, you can burn more calories standing up than sitting down, which little by little helps maintain your physique, so you could see this as a win-win really!

These are just some of the ways in which you can brighten someone’s mood, be it a friend or a stranger, without having to go too much out of your way to do it. Little things like this can make you feel more wholesome and humbled, and it’s a really great way to improve the spirit of your community- imagine if every person tried just one of these tips, what a happy and friendly place the world would be, especially over the Christmas season!

Lots of Love,
