One of my biggest passions in life is food. I love how food brings us together, comforts us, nourishes us. Having spent my childhood visiting Thailand before the throngs of tourists got to it and really changed the culture, I’ve always had such a love for authentic Thai food and the gentle, loving nature of the people that make it.
I’d heard reviews of The Giggling Squid from various friends and family members and decided to take my dad to our closest one in Billericay for a little father-daughter lunch date last weekend- I know, I’m just adorable.
We each got one of the tapas sets; for under £12 you receive 4 little iconic dishes. My dad got the One Giggling Squid set which came with sleeping honey duck, chicken ginger stir fry, Thai spring rolls and jasmine rice. Mine was Two Giggling Squids which was chicken massaman curry (one of my favourites), salt and pepper squid, beef salad and jasmine rice. I love the size of the dishes, it was all just enough to fill you right up without making you feel gross and bloated.
The menu is very versatile plus I love how much lighter Thai food is compared to Indian; it just feels healthier and more flavoursome to me. I am really excited to try the Brentwood venue when it opens in March/April; hopefully I will go for dinner as the menu will be different again. In the meantime, I’ll be reminiscing about my childhood summers spent on the beaches of Koh Samui, sipping coconut water and eating Pad Thai Goong without a care in the world.
