I’m a huge ice cream fan, especially in the summer where it’s the perfect way to cool yourself down on a warm day. Recently my “Discover” page on Instagram has been showing me tonnes of ice cream cups from a Shoreditch shop called Soft Serve Society, so I just had to check them out when I was in London recently.
Located in Boxpark, a pop up mall made of shipping containers for fashion, lifestyle and food brands, Soft Serve like all the other units is unassuming from the outside. However once you cross the threshold, it all becomes clear.
You can choose from vanilla or the signature flavour of the moment in a cone or cup, price varies depending on additional toppings. I opted for matcha green tea ice cream in a cup, sprinkled with crushed Oreo dusting, sitting on a cloud of candy floss. Yes, I created the most extravagant ice cream to post all over my social media for just £5; worth it? Definitely.
The ice cream is so, well, creamy, and as I’ve never tried anything matcha flavoured before I was pleasantly surprised by the floral taste. I’ll admit that I had to throw half of the candy floss away to even get to my ice cream, but god it was all worth it!
This might seem like yet another expensive fad that Shoreditch is churning out for gullible trend-jumpers, but why not just try it out? Take a photo with your creation against the purposefully positioned white wall, or outside the shop, for a chance to be featured on the Soft Serve Instagram page – https://www.instagram.com/softservesociety/ – just don’t scroll through if when you’re craving something sweet!!
