Eating out is one of my favourite ways to spend time. I love the social aspect of brunching with girlfriends, or going on date nights with my boyfriend. I love discovering new recipes and restaurants, little nooks in my hometown and cool finds in London. I try to make a point of eating out once a week, especially now the weather is getting more accommodating, and recently have fallen in love with a few little brunch spots in my hometown of Leigh on Sea- a quaint seaside town under an hour away from London by train.
Stop The World
Stop The World has been on my love list for donkeys years now. Situated on Leigh Broadway, this cafe offers the most ridiculously indulgent cakes, breakfasts and lunches. I always try to snag one of the outside tables when the sun is out, as it’s a great opportunity for people watching, plus inside can get a little cramped due to high demand which makes me uncomfortable. My firm fav from STW is the smashed avo on rye with harissa and feta cheese; such a simple dish but absolutely gorgeous!
Crème Cakes & Shakes
Strangely enough, Crème is right next to Stop the World, although it has only been open less than 2 years. Crème offers a wide range of sweet and savoury waffles, “freakshakes” (you know, those insanely loaded milkshakes) and cakes that would sate even the most sweet-toothed person! I love going here for the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, although choosing to have it with waffles instead of the suggested toast was a huge mistake as I definitely bit off more than I could chew- literally.
Toppers & Toast
My new favourite place in the whole of Leigh on Sea is Toppers & Toast, the Australian-inspired breakfast bar that I mentioned in my Anzac Day Brunch post- you can read that here. I’m so in love with the entire menu at T&T, it’s honestly a struggle to pick one thing to eat- hence why I keep going back again and again to sample more! I was inspired to try something completely out of my comfort zone the last time I went, and opted for the beetroot hummus on sourdough with alfalfa, sunblush tomatoes, carrot, goats cheese spinach and goji berries. I’m a huge healthy eating fan but not a great lover of beetroot, however this meal absolutely blew me away! Coupled with the insanely beautiful plating- a huge yes from me and my Insta- and a green smoothie, I was in brunching heaven. You’ll definitely be seeing a lot more of this on my Instagram in the next few weeks as I try to eat as much of the menu as possible!
Leigh on Sea is such a diverse town for eating out. You can walk along one road, The Broadway, and find nigh on 30 restaurants serving a range of different cuisines to tickle your fancy. With a few new places opening up in the next couple of weeks, I can’t wait to review more food- and more importantly, eat it!
